Blended Learning, DVDs and Video Resources

Videos are available to buy in VHS or DVD format. Prices from £125 plus postage and packaging. DVDs are useful to support learning in the workplace. It is not possible to learn a job from a video but used as part of a blended learning programme where an individual learner is asked a range of questions in a learning conversation can be extremely beneficial. 

New learning materials come available all the time and is made available for the benefit off the industry. It needs to be stressed that DVDs are not a substitute for practical instruction, training and experience in the workplace .

Scientific glass blowing This DVD was produced in conjunction with the BSSG. We also have video clips on particular aspects of advanced scientific blowing. Video clips can provide a basis of a discussion
The nature of glass The DVD explores some of the main glass types and their application. It provides a useful learning process to stimulate the imagination without going into the technical aspects of glass
Raw materials and batch mixing Understanding how glass is made from the different raw materials shows how it is important to control the process of glass manufacture
The glass preparation process - melting, refining and conditioning The title of this DVD demonstrates what is needed to prepare glass for the forming process.
Glass melting furnaces - heat recovery systems, furnace design and instrumentation & control The efficient use of energy is essential in the commercial manufacture of glass.  This DVD is useful to prompt a discussion on the need for diligence in maintaining high levels of efficiency. 
Glass forming processes - feeding, blowing, pressing and rolling & drawing This DVD provides the reasons why melting and conditioning glass are so important. It gives an excellent insight into how glass is formed into products of value to society
Glass faults and glass annealing This DVD is an introduction to the subject. It is very useful to bring together people from the hot and cold ends of the factory so there is a better understanding of the need for communication.
Secondary processes - hot reforming & processing, glass surface removal and glass surface addition This is a general introduction to secondary processes. It is useful to form a debate but needs specific video clips of a particular process to get any depth of meaning
Glass Container Fault Recognition This DVD describes a number of critical defects that can occur in the manufacture of glass containers. It does not demonstrate the solutions to the problems as this is an individual company issue. 
Glass Fracture Analysis This DVD provides a non-technical understanding of faults in glass and how they can be observed and an explanation on the solutions. Highly recommended for all those in quality control
Pressing Glass This DVD shows the pressing of glass by machine and by hand operation. It provides an interesting discussion from which to gain an insight into how glass can be formed into a variety of shapes
Customers in distress-training in customer service skills This video is targeted at the glazing and fenestration industry showing the affects of good and bad customers service. Useful for any sector as a basis to review the way you deal with your customers
Handling Flat Glass Handling Flat Glass is a DVD essential to watch for anyone in the glass and glazing industry. It is centered on handling glass in in a merchants premises with some footage on delivering flat glass to site 
Handling flat glass on site using mechanical vacuum suction frames. This video is a must for those involved in high rise glazing. It shows  some of the the mechanical  equipment that is needed to lift glass into place.
Flat Glass Processing, cutting, edge-working and drilling  There is always something to learn from using a DVD to explore how the process glass. Ideal for young people joining the sector and for those adults with little knowledge of the glass sector
